This project helped me see reality from a different perspective other than what seems to be known. I have always been aware of the harmful chemicals being fed into our atmosphere, but I never really looked beyond this point. My research evolved around the fashion industry. I was extremely shocked when I learned that the fashion industry is ranked as the second highest polluter in the world. From the growing of cotton to the transportation process it all equals to very high amounts of CO2 being fed into our environment causing disastrous damages. Our overall project consisted of reducing the usage of plastic bags.
Plastic bags are very common and the environmental damage by the excessive use is even greater than one can imagine. It takes approximately 20-1000 years for a bag to decompose, breaking down to tiny particles that harms the wildlife. Therefore, I decided to reduce the amount of CO2 emission by thrift shopping and using reusable bags. Thrift shopping helped by using less energy, reducing the amount of CO2, and by saving money. Reusable bags helped me avoid the usage of plastic bags and are a lot more convenient. Overall this project helped me realized the importance of finding new ways to avoid emissions from happening. A lot of people are not aware of the damages CO2 emissions have in this planet and being able to learned and act on it has been life changing.
