Working on this project was a good way for me to change certain practices in my life. Saving CO2 does not mean I have to actively make severe attempts at saving hundreds of pounds of CO2 a week, but on making small changes that contribute to something greater. As a commuting student, I realize how much of a big impact i have made on commuting using the metro bus and train versus the car. It not only saved me money, but prevented unnecessary usage of gas which goes a lot when someone would travel 35 miles 4 times a week.
Through this project, I learned a lot about the programs that are implemented in public systems and corporate markets to try and prevent unnecessary pollution. Reducing plastic bag usage may seem small, but with enough people contributing, from different cities altogether, then it becomes such a snowball of an impact in reducing the carbon footprint for the greater mass. Recycling plastic bags is one thing, but devising a solution such as reusable bags that one can buy is a more convenient solution. Overall, learning about the impact of small changes in life that goes a long way in reducing carbon footprint is what made this one of my unique and mind changing class.
