The current environmental situation of our world is unacceptable. We only have a place we may call home and that's Earth. We must look for ways to stop the harm we are causing and look for alternatives if we want humanity to thrive. We might not be able to fix everything; however, we are capable of contributing in many different ways we can help the environment.
The project worked on over the semester was a very interactive and mind opening opportunity to realize that every small step one takes can make an impact on the world. We as a group decided to stop the use of plastic bags. I found the information we obtained to be very surprising, including how the production and consumption of these polymers affect the world. We had a goal in mind to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic bags. The amount of carbon emission that a typical plastic bag produced is about .07 lbs which at first it doesn't seem much however as we combined it with the total times we went to a store and used a plastic bag this number increased rapidly to a reduction of 16.38 lbs of CO2. I encouraged my family and friends to decline the use of plastic bags and opt from the use of reusable plastic bags. For my personal contribution, I carpooled to campus which resulted in a reduction of 1701.74 lbs of CO2. This class introduced me to many aspects of the environment and the production and consumption of energy, overall it was a very mind-opening class.
